Welcome to MNS!

Meet MNS:

Our governor is Cierrah, and our vice-governor is Devin. They are responsible for leading our colony and making final decisions. Our banker, who is in charge of all of our money is Jeffrey. Another important job is our recorder, who is Victoria. This person must keep track of everything we do! Our trader, Patrick, has good negotiating skills to deal with the natives and other colonies. Lastly, our mapper is the one who keeps track of our land (how much it is worth, who is in the area). This is Peter. Together, we are MNS!

Why Did We Colonize:

Our group decided to go to the New World in order to colonize this new area and gain wealth and power. We have been sponsored by the government which has provided us with our supplies for the ships and for the colonies. The government will send us additional supplies twice during the simulation at the end of rounds 4 and 10. At the conclusion, we must pay half of our land wealth and one-quarter of our food wealth.

What We Stand For:

For our flag, we chose red, white, and blue for our background colors. Red represents courage, white represents peace, and blue represents freedom. We want to have peace with other colonies, but when necessecary, we want to fight back with courage. Also, we will have courage against difficulties. We have white for freedom, so we can try to stay alive to fight for our country. On the flag, there are black squirrels that stand for determination, and acorns that both stand for our colony’s name. There are sheaves of wheat and a green fish that stand for our food. That is what our flag stands for.

Our Ships' Names and Cargo:

Our first ship is named The Acorn and carries four men, two women, and three children. We have three horses and five farm animals on this ship. It also has three guns for hunting and 290 units of food. Our second ship is called Treeflower and has four men, two women, and two children. The other items are the same. Our third and final ship is the Saturnia and has the same as the Treeflower.

Our Colonization Journal

09/26/07 Today our ships are loaded and we are setting sail to the New World. We are nervous and scared because we don't know what the New World will be like. We are also sad because we are leaving our hometown, our friends and family. Will we have enough food? Will we survive? There is a lot of questions, but we don't have answers to many. We are setting sail now. Good luck to us. - M.N.S

09/28/07 - This month,we set sail, but we hit bad storms that battered our ships. We made no progress. Then, after the storm, we hit good winds from the east and made a progress of 1,800 miles. Wow! We did a lot better with the sailing then we thought! Now we only have 1,700 miles left. We're on our way.

10/3/07 - Two months later, our beloved ship, The Treeflower, sunk because of another dreaded storm. We lost eight brave, great people. We also lost all our belongings on the ship. We're homesick because we miss our family and friends. We wonder if we will see them again. Days passed by, and we are running out of food and water. One morning, we woke up. When we went up onto the deck, WE SAW LAND! Now, the dangerous journey over the sea is over. Thank God.

10/8/07 -This week, we landed, and we hit a few rocks, but we're okay.  We picked a pretty good piece of land.  The only problem is ...we're in the Seques' territory.  The Seques are a group of hostile Native Americans.  When we arrived, Jeffrey saw about 200 Native Americans as we went down the river.  They were about to attack us with bows and arrows, but we got away.  We all hope that this will be a glorious journey!

10-16-07 - This week we had good farming weather.  We also ran into a school of fish and caught as many as we could.  The food was great!  Each farmer got us 15 units of food, and each fisherman got us 25 units.  Then the pirates attacked, but no men were lost.T  he pirates invaded the coast only, but luckily we were in land so we were safe.  So far so good.   -M.N.S.
